MAKE ‘EM LAUGH, MAKE ‘EM CRY
David’s Hill’s long career as a writer has captured pathos and humour in equal measure. He has a profound ability to rip the reader’s heart out, or to inspire a rip snorting laugh-out-loud.
David’s characters, be they historical or contemporary, become live versions of ourselves in the situations he creates. We carry with us the wisdom, warmth and experience of his writing, be it fiction or non-fiction.
But how does David do this? How does he make us laugh and why do his stories make us cry?
What can we learn from his extraordinary lifetime as a writer, social commentator and generous architect of our children’s and young adults’ literary lives.
