Profile

Kiri Lightfoot

Kiri Lightfoot is an Auckland based author and actor.

Born in the UK, Kiri moved to Aotearoa, New Zealand, as an infant and has lived mostly in central Auckland. She is the author of the picture books Every Second Friday, Ming’s Iceberg, Ngahere i te Pō, the Forest at Night and the young adult novel, Bear. She continues to write in both genres.

Kiri has always loved children’s books and would choose babysitting jobs based on the quality of the bookshelf (which she would happily continue reading once the children were asleep). This and her love of storytelling through devising theatre shows inspired her to write. She is now a mother of three and has worked as a scriptwriter in children’s television, as well as an actor for stage and screen. Alongside her writing, Kiri continues to work part-time in television production and runs poetry sessions in aged-care homes through her work with Active Arts.
