Kate Gallant grew up in Titirangi, Auckland. She moved to Tauranga in 1995, where she gained a BA in English and History as well as a Graduate Diploma in Teaching from Waikato University. Having lived on a boat for six years, Kate moved to a small coastal village south of Whanganui in 2018, where she now enjoys beachcombing, weaving and writing.
Kate is a secondary school English teacher and a graduate of the Diploma in Writing Stories for Children from the New Zealand Institute of Business Studies. She believes that the beauty in children’s literature is that it is boundless — you can make your characters whatever you wish and take them wherever you like.
Kate writes for her mokopuna and has several stories underway at present.
Kate received the 2023 Storylines Janice Marriott Mentoring Award for her manuscript Aunty Bart’s Vegetable Cart.
