Janet Martin was born in Rotorua and now lives in bushy Titirangi, Auckland, where she has lots of inspiration for her rhyming stories about New Zealand native birds. Her first book was Abigail Fantail, written in 2000.
With six wonderful grandchildren, Janet has a pool of little people to read her stories to. They are usually the first to see ‘nana’s new book’ in draft form.
She also loves exploring the country with her partner Davyd in their converted bus, and enjoys the beaches and bush walks around where she lives in the Waitakere ranges.
Janet and Davyd enjoy performing musical book readings at pre-schools, schools, libraries and story festivals. Davyd plays original music on the ukulele, which has been specially written for the stories by the duo, with a loop station used to add different musical sounds. Janet reads the rhyming stories along to the music and there are choruses for the children to sing.
