Claire Mabey

Claire Mabey (born in Tauranga) is a literary curator, writer, and arts producer based in Wellington, New Zealand. She is the founder and director of Verb Wellington, a festival celebrating books and ideas, and a co-founder of LitCrawl Wellington, a dynamic literary event series. Claire is also the current books editor at The Spinoff, where she champions Aotearoa NZ’s writers and literary culture.

With a background in English and Art History from the University of Otago and Victoria University of Wellington, Claire has built a career dedicated to fostering literary conversations and creating innovative platforms for readers and writers. She has curated events for major literary festivals and worked across publishing, journalism, and arts programming.

Passionate about making literature accessible and engaging, Claire continues to shape Aotearoa NZ’s literary landscape through her writing, editorial work, and festival leadership. She lives in Island Bay, Wellington.
