Profile

Anne Ingram

Anne Ingram is the author of the Lucy Bee series. She was born in Auckland and spent her childhood years in Dunedin, Te Kuiti and Orewa. She has a BA in English Literature and a Diploma in Teaching (Secondary). She has lived and worked in Wellington, Christchurch, Hamilton, London, Singapore and France, but has spent the longest time where she lives now, in Waikanae on the Kapiti Coast.

From a very young age, Anne loved reading and has wanted to write stories for as long as she can remember. She has worked as a librarian, a teacher, a journalist, an editor, and even had her own children’s bookstore – all jobs involving books, writing and reading. Her short stories have been published in the New Zealand School Journal and broadcast on National Radio. Because Anne has lived in different several different countries, some of her novels reflect the settings and issues found in those parts of the world. Sea Robbers, an adventure about modern day pirates, was written when she lived in Singapore, as were her collections of Asian folktales and Legends. The first Lucy book, Lucy Bee & the Secret Gene, takes place in Kapiti against a backdrop of various incidences at school, and has ten-year old Lucy seeking to confirm her identity through the means of a science fair project. The second in the series, Bonjour Lucy Bee, is set in France where Lucy, now 12, is expecting a fun holiday but instead comes up close and personal with the refugee issue when she takes on the responsibility of looking after a young refugee. The third title in the trilogy, Lucy & Soline, begins in Waikanae where Lucy’s family are hosting French exchange student, Soline, who, familiar with her own French history, awakens Lucy to her New Zealand history, which, on a subsequent visit to France, leads to Lucy’s discovery of a forgotten heritage, and paves the way to an exciting career.
