Vasanti Unka

Vasanti Unka-491Vasanti Unka is a picture book creator — she writes, designs and illustrates books for children. Based in Auckland, New Zealand, she has worked in the magazine and book publishing industry as a designer and illustrator for most of her life. She has worked as a magazine art director and an art editor for children’s books. Magazines she has illustrated for include Herald on Sunday, Cuisine, Canvas and Little Treasures. She has illustrated numerous picture books including the Love to Sing books, and written and illustrated two books of stitch-craft for children. In 2009 she acquired a Masters in Design

Over the years her work has won many awards. Her book, The Boring Book, was the New Zealand Post, Margaret Mahy Book of the Year for 2014 and won the Best Picture Book award. It also received a White Ravens Award and was named an IBBY Honour Book for the excellence of its illustrations.
