Joy H. Davidson is the author of six internationally published children’s books. As well as publication in New Zealand, her books have also been published and distributed in the UK, America, Canada, Denmark and Australia.
Joy was born and raised in Auckland, and after living in Whangarei for six years, and Napier for seven, has now returned to Arkles Bay in Auckland, where she lives with her husband and a little black scruffy griffon dog named Sadie. Her writing sanctuary is a little desk overlooking the sparkling and ever-changing views of the Hauraki Gulf. It’s a great place to sit back, imagine and conjure up her next story.
Educated at Epsom Girls Grammar School, Joy holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Social Sciences from Auckland University, and a Diploma with excellence in Writing Stories for Children from The New Zealand Institute of Business Studies. She has studied art, drama and music, and has had a love and passion for writing all her life, winning various prizes for her poetry and prose while still at school. However, it is only since 2014, after a life-changing event, that she finally decided to pursue her dream of becoming a professional children’s writer.
In 2015 she won New Zealand’s coveted Storylines Joy Cowley award which helped launch her on the path to fulfilling her dream!
Joy is passionate about children’s literature, and through her writing strives to encourage, engender and enrich the love of reading for children with the use of fun, rhythmic, read along manuscripts, coupled with colourful and often chaotic illustrations provided by the talented illustrators she is privileged to work with.
