Storylines Margaret Mahy Awards Day

The  Storylines Margaret Mahy Awards Day is Storylines’ annual celebration of New Zealand’s authors, their books and achievements. It is held in Auckland each year on the weekend closest to International Children’s Book Day, 2 April - Hans Christian Andersen's birthday.

In an exception, in 2018 this will be Sunday 8 April, the weekend after Easter. Don't miss this opportunity to acknowledge the achievements of writers and illustrators over the past year, receive updates from the Storylines Trust and Foundation, and to network with other children's writers, illustrators and storytellers. Mark the date in your diary:

Sunday 8 April 2018 in the Music Auditorium of the University of Auckland, Epsom Campus.

With the Storylines Margaret Mahy Medal and Lecture presentation, a full programme of awards for original manuscripts, two book launches and the announcement of three new Storylines initiatives, it is shaping up to be a particularly exciting year. A formal notification will be emailed out to Storylines' members a week prior to bookings opening on 19 March.

Please note that to attend this event you MUST pre-register as spaces are limited. For Storylines Members and award-winners, the event is free. For non-members, $15.00. Students, $10.00.

The Storylines Foundation AGM (see below) will kick off the event at 1pm followed by a tea break with a chance to chat and purchase copies of the award-winning books. At 2.45 we have the Margaret Mahy Lecture, the Joy Cowley, Tom Fitzgibbon and Tessa Duder manuscript awards, the launches of the 2017 Gavin Bishop and Tom Fitzgibbon award-winning books, and the 2018 Notable Books certificate presentations. The day will close with the launch of Storylines’ exciting new initiatives for the future growth and health of children’s literature in New Zealand.
