Message from Heather Arnold:
Dip. Graphic Design, Dip. Digital Media
I have been a graphic designer/ illustrator for over 24 years. I graduated from Auckland Technical Institute in 1985 with a Diploma in Graphic Design, and have worked for many years in small design studios and printing companies.
I have designed and illustrated five stamp issues for New Zealand Post:- Wildflowers, 1990 Commonwealth Games, Hector's Dolphin, the Rugby League Centenary and the $20 Definitive Stamp.
I attended classes to learn about the different art/illustration mediums, including - acrylic, pastel, watercolour, water-based oils and life drawing. To gain an understanding of tonal value, design, colour, complimentary colours, the coloured greys and how to employ these in my illustration work.
In 2007, I had my first book, which I designed, illustrated and wrote released by Reed Publishing (now Penguin) called Draw New Zealand Birds, which won the LIANZA Elsie Lockie award for non-fiction in 2008.
I completed a diploma in Digital Media at Media Design School in Auckland in 2007, designing HTML/CSS/websites, Flash websites and Flash games.
In 2008 I designed and illustrated the book Rangitoto, authored by Maria Gill. Rangitoto was released in May 2009.
