Scott Tulloch
Scott began drawing at a young age and initially aspired to become a cartoonist. His interest in art took a lengthy hiatus during his teenage years and did not resurface until his mid twenties whilst he was in the UK. En-route back to New Zealand Scott detoured via tropical North Queensland where he spent four years establishing himself as an artist and illustrator. Notable amongst his many commissions were his murals of tropical reef and mangrove environments for the Queensland Dept of Environment and Heritage. In 1997 Scott returned to New Zealand to take up position as Artist in Residence at the Hermitage, Mount Cook, in the central South Island and in 1999 established his own art gallery, The Martinborough Gallery and Studio, in the country town of Martinborough where he now resides. Scott has successfully published many of his artworks as fine art prints and cards, including his very popular cartoon series, A Vineyard Year at the Frolicking Pig Estate, which has been distributed throughout New Zealand, Australia, the UK, the USA and Canada. In 2004 Scott decided to concentrate on his main interest of illustrating books, and set about writing a number of childrens’ book and graphic novel ideas which he then sent to the major publishing companies in New Zealand. HarperCollins picked up on one of his manuscripts, a children’s story about a serious toddler with a crazy dad –Willy’s Dad. This was to be the beginning of a long and fruitful relationship between Scott and HarperCollins.
