Sarah Verroken

Sarah_Verroken_1.jpgIn 2006 Sarah Verroken graduated as a Master in Visual Arts, option Illustration. In her last year of study she wrote and illustrated a picture book, Boos, about a sad little duck. The book won the Illustrator's award of the City Hasselt 2006 and was then published in Belgium by Clavis in 2007. It was nominated for the Boekenpauw 2008 which is the annual award for the best illustrated Belgian picture book and for the KJV (Kids and Youth Jury Flanders) 2009. The rights have already been sold to several countries.

Originally from Belgium, Sarah is now based in Wellington and works as a freelance graphic designer and illustrator for clients and publishers all over the world. She loves illustrating for children but also likes adult audiences. Her drawings vary from handmade (woodcut, paint, ink...) over computer techniques and everything in between.

Boos (Feeling Sad) is in numerous exhibitions including: Buchmesse: Book Art International, October 2008, Frankfurt, Germany & Best Book Design from All Over the World, Leipzig, 2009, Germany.
