Thaw was born in Rangoon, Burma, in 1986, and grew up in Fiji and New Zealand. He graduated from Massey University College of Design, specialising in illustration, in 2077. He has wored as a freelance artist for the past few years, predominantly illustrating small-press journals for educational publishers in New Zealand and overseas, for which he is best known for illustrating the comic
Level Ten for Learning Media. He has also worked as a storyboard artist, concept artist for museum spaces, and a designer for a feature film. He is currently enjoying a sabbatical, writing and illustrating his own book.
