Kris Stanhope
After high school Kris left home to become a teacher. Five years and two universities later he left with a Bachelor of Education degree. Unfortunately, his graduation coincided with a major shortage of teaching positions in Nova Scotia. So…New Zealand, its abundance of teaching jobs and warm climate, was a great fit. South Auckland became his home for the next nine years. During that time he got married (to his high school sweetheart), had two children, and decided to take a stab at writing. After three or four years, and a few different stories sitting on the computer that no one was allowed to read, Kris made the decision to take the next step. As he said, ‘I realised I had to find out whether or not my stories were any good.’ So he joined KiwiWrite4Kidz and starting attending monthly writers meetings. That gave him the confidence to send two stories in for the Storylines Tom Fitzgibbon competition. Kris has just recently moved to Discovery Bay, Hong Kong for a new challenge. He is teaching at an international school, living in an apartment building for the first time, and loving the even warmer climate. He still writes on a regular basis.
