Joanna Orwin has a research background in plant ecology and 30 years experience as a science editor, mostly for the New Zealand Forest Research Institute (Landcare Research since 1992). She has proven skills in many areas of writing. Her publishing record includes scientific papers, feature articles, non-fiction history texts, and historical and adventure novels for children and young adults. Since 1998 she has focused on her creative writing career and work on interpretation projects as a consultant researcher, writer, and editor.
Since leaving Landcare Research in 1998, Joanna Orwin has focused on her creative writing career, supported by contract work on interpretation projects (environmental science, history, and culture) as a consultant researcher, writer, and editor. Her earlier period of creative writing spanned 1980 to 1987, before she returned to work as a science editor, mostly for the New Zealand Forest Research Institute (transferred to Landcare Research in 1992). Her published works of literature include non-fiction history and historical–adventure novels for children and young adults.
