Professor Robert Jahnke grew up on the East Coast at Waipiro Bay with a hapu affiliation with Te Whanau a Rakairoa of Ngāti Porou. He was educated at Hato Paora College and graduated with Fine Arts and Masters degrees from Elam School of Fine Arts at the University of Auckland (1978) and a masters degree from the California Institute of the Arts. He is currently Head of Te Pūtahi-a-Toi, School of Māori Studies, Massey University.
