Janet Martin
Janet was born in 1954 at Rotorua where she 'grew up'. In 1987 she moved to Auckland with her young family. For the last 15 years Janet has been living in bushy Titirangi, where she was inspired to write rhyming stories about New Zealand native birds. With 6 precious grandchildren, she has a pool of unsuspecting little people to read her stories to. Young Jack, aged 5, is one of the first people to see nana's new book in draft form.
When she is not playing with words, Janet works with numbers at a chartered accountants office. She also loves exploring the country in her converted bus, and enjoys the beaches and bush walks where she lives in the Waitakere ranges. She is still growing up, and 'every day is a school day'. Janet has fun writing her stories, and gets great pleasure when children call the birds they see and hear by the book characters' names, eg 'Louie the Tui' and 'Abigail Fantail'. Janet has been tinkering around on her piano writing tunes for her rhyming books for the last few years. Now with the help of her partner Davyd (musical arranger) the songs are starting to come together, and a CD is on the horizon. Her latest book is Emily the Kiwi Plays the Ukulele and so Janet is learning to play the ukulele. Selected bibliography:
