Steve Dickinson was born in London in 1958, and arrived in New Zealand in 1974. He studied at North Shore Teachers' College and became an art teacher at a local Auckland intermediate. 'Illustrating is a challenging art form in that it carries a high degree of restraints from both the writers and publishers who have their own visions about the book. I believe a good illustrator is one who can interpret the needs of both other parties but at the same time does not compromise the artistic quality of the work' (Matapihi, 1988). Steve has written several novels.
