Lucy Davey
When Lucy was young, she thought she would grow up to be a scientist like her Mother, so it was no surprise when she studied technology at university. However, as well as playing 'experiments'and 'projects' when she was a child, she would also spend hours making up stories and songs while walking, or riding her bike. One year, her Mum and Dad gave her a typewriter for Christmas, and she was thrilled at the thought of being able to type up her stories like a real book. As an adult, Lucy’s inspiration to write children’s stories came when her eldest daughter was born, and she read about Dr Suess’s journey into writing. At first she wrote just for her new baby, but soon she realised that writing was something she loved and wanted to pursue, so she began writing stories to share with other people. Lucy loves communicating with children, both through words, and through music and song. She ran a mainly music group for four years in Auckland. A selection of Lucy’s children’s songs have been published by mainly music International Trust. When she’s not writing, Lucy loves to read, play the piano, sing, garden and paint. She still loves science, and has a PhD in Chemical Engineering (UNSW, Sydney), and a First Class Honours Degree in Biotechnology and Bioprocess Engineering (Massey University, Palmerston North). Lucy is the co-director of boutique advertising agency, Black. Selected Bibliography:
