Stephen (Steve) Barker

Stephen was born in Nottingham in the UK, and has had a lifelong love of books and reading. After school he trained as a doctor in Sheffield, this included an exciting time as an intern in the jungles of Borneo. A desire to travel the world eventually brought him to New Zealand about 20 years ago, where he met his wife. They now live with two teenage daughters, two cats and a yellow labrador, in Albany on Auckland's North Shore. Stephen had the ideas for his first book in his head for several years, before deciding to put them onto paper and finding that he really enjoyed writing. Since then he has completed the exciting sequel to The Secret of Spirits Bay, and hopes to see this available soon. At the moment he is in the middle of a new story suitable for younger teenage boys, featuring cars, intrigue and adventure, with a literary twist. When not writing or doctoring, Stephen is keen on all sorts of music and anything that involves the outdoors.
