Storylines Festival volunteers

Smiling_Volunteer_at_Storylines_Festival_Auckland_2010_1.JPGWant to be close to the action? Be a Storylines Festival volunteer!

As volunteers, you are a very precious resource and we appreciate your contributions, great and small, as they help to make the festival a success.

It’s quite a lot of hard work but it’s also a huge amount of fun. You get to meet great writers, illustrators and storytellers, and all those people who just love children’s books, plus of course you get to see the smiles on the faces of the children who we all do this for.

We need all sorts of volunteers:

  • people to deliver brochures and put up posters ahead of the festival
  • envelope stuffing
  • drivers and navigators for separate days of the Story Tour in Auckland and Northland.

And on the Family Days we need:

  • face painters
  • fairies, other dress-up characters, readers
  • minders to take care of authors and illustrators minders to help with school groups
  • venue guides
  • general floor duty, answering questions, giving directions
  • catering – helping with tea, coffee, lunches etc
  • floor managers
  • stage managers
  • help setting up
  • help packing up
  • help for art and craft activities
  • runners to take messages and do errands
  • and more…

Please contact us with your name and contact details.

To help us allocate the right task for the right person, we need to know a bit about you:

  • where you live so we can put you in contact with the right team - Northland, Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, or Dunedin.
  • have you volunteered for Storylines (or another organisation) before and what did you do? Would you like to do that again?
  • do you have particular interests or activities you want to help with? any special skills that might be useful?
  • any disabilities or limitations that could restrict what you can do?
  • do you have a friend who volunteers who you would like to work with, or do you have a group (perhaps from your workplace) that would like to work together?
  • your contact details (name, phone, mobile, email, postal address) so we can keep in touch and send your volunteer information out to you before the festival.
  • how much time can you give us (a full day, a half day, work from home, join a committee or a team (eg the Factopia (non-fiction) area at Family Day will need a team to prepare and set it up)
