Story TourAbout the Story TourEach year as part of the Storylines Festival, the Story Tour brings New Zealand writers and illustrators into schools and early childhood centres. The Story Tour is provided at no cost to schools and takes place as part of the Storylines Festival. If you would like the Story Tour to visit in 2012, schools which have not been visited in the recent past, are invited to apply to be a host school for the Story Tour. There is a high demand for the Story Tour to visit, so we rely on you to work with us to make the visit to your school a success. We invite you to read 'What happens on the Story Tour?' and decide whether you would like to take part in this valuable addition to your literacy programme, and if so to complete the online Story Tour Application Form to register your school's interest. Applications for the 2012 Auckland Story Tour will be available early in 2012.
What happens on the Story Tour? The Story Tour is organised around groups of relatively close schools, dropping off a guest author and/ or illustrator at each selected school for upto an hour to talk to students about their work and the Storylines Festival of New Zealand Children’s Writers and Illustrators. Where possible, we will endeavour to match the guest author and/ or illustrator to the audience. The allocated time includes arriving at the school, speaking to the students and being collected at the end of the session. The aim of Story Tour is for students to get to meet the people who create the books which they have read and enjoyed, and to give students a spur to their own artistic, literary and dramatic efforts. We also ask you to consider allowing a nearby school to bring their students to your venue for their Story Tour session. This would mean more time would be available for Story Tour session, and would assist us with reducing travelling time between schools. Depending on the schedule we may ask your school to provide morning tea or lunch for all of the authors and illlustrators on the Story Tour. This could be up to 8 people.
