The Storylines Childrens Literature Foundation supports and promotes children's literature in New Zealand. Its members include parents, families and grandparents, authors, illustrators, publishers, teachers, booksellers, librarians, budding writers and other professionals in the fields of reading, writing, publishing, and literacy. Together they work with and support the Storylines Children's Literature Charitable Trust to promote the value of books and reading for children and young adults, and to support the development of New Zealand children's literature.
Foundation members receive a regular newsletter with news and book reviews from the world of children's literature, booklists covering all ages and genres, an annual year book, and invitations to events with opportunities to meet writers and illustrators, and discuss literature for children and young people.
The Children's Literature Foundation was established in 2000 following the amalgamation of the Children's Literature Association (established in 1967) and the Children's Book Foundation (established in 1989), both organisations that promoted literature to children and their schools, libraries and families. It was renamed Storylines Children's Literature Foundation in 2005, as the organisation worked to form the Trust, and restructured to allow for growth. Its membership supports the work of Storylines, and many members are actively involved in Storylines committees and activities.
The Storylines Trust has a voluntary management committee, drawn from Storylines Foundation members, with a strong list of co-optable volunteers and a total national membership of more than 550.
Other committees that carry out the Trust's work are also elected from among the Foundation membership. Volunteer sub-committees handle awards, events, IBBY membership and activities, promotions and marketing, and publications, including the website. Many other members work in a voluntary capacity on Trust activities, including the Storylines Festival.
