IBBY International Congress 2016 - Public Ticketed Events

Members of the public interested in hearing leading figures from the world of children's literature can purchase tickets to four selected events that are part of the 2016 IBBY International Congress.
Public tickets are limited. There will be no door sales. If you wish to attend you must purchase in advance.

You will be emailed a receipt. Please print this out and present it at the information desk at the venue ahead of the session to receive your admission ticket. (The receipt will not provide admission; you must have a ticket for each session.)

All public ticket prices are $25.00 (adults); $20 (Storylines members - please log in as a member before going to purchase page); $15.00 (students - bring ID to ticket desk for validation at event)

Leigh Hobbs, a celebrated Australian picture book author and illustrator, has recently been appointed the Australian Children’s Laureate for 2016-2017. Leigh is passionate about creativity in children. He discusses his role as Children’s Laureate and his creative direction.

Turning a much-loved book into a film or TV show is fraught with challenges, particularly designing the world and characters. Sir Richard Taylor and Martin Baynton discuss their design approaches, focusing on The Lord Of The Rings, Tintin and Narnia (Taylor), and on Jane and the Dragon (Baynton).

Who are your Influences?

Markus Zusak tells his story of becoming a writer, and how family histories and daily life can become their own language. Markus also talks about the impact of The Book Thief being translated into film, theatre and music, and how these translations reflect the work itself, and the person who created it in the first place.
